Lions top GH in boys soccer
After 80 minutes of even soccer, Clear Lake posted a 2-1 victory over Garner-Hayfield in an exciting match at Lions Field Thursday, April 12.
The Lions got the first score of the night with a goal in the 14th minute. Jack Finn earned an assist with a pass to Ernie Miszewski for the score. Garner evened the contest in the 26th minute of the second half and then held the Lions at bay to end regulation with a 1-1 score.
Eight minutes into the first overtime, Clear Lake’s Karlen Lu made an attack on goal, finding Alex Gonzalez with a cross. Gonzalez converted the cross for the game winning score.
“We had ups, downs, overs and unders in this match,” said Coach Matt Anderson. “Mid-field Captain Carson Farmer played the entire 80 minutes, putting us in position for the win. Defensive Captain Devin Thomas came into the match with a lingering injury and pushed through, providing us with the support needed in this even contest. Our keeper, Captain Bryson Hamilton did a nice job keeping Garner of the board with nine saves. The boys were resilient, giving it everything they had to finish with a win.”
The next match for the Lions is a girls and boys varsity match on Thursday, April 19, against Iowa Falls-Alden. The game will be played in Alden with kick off for the girls game at 5:30.

The junior varsity Lions recorded an impressive 8-0 victory over Garner-Hayfield.
