Lions stretch win streak

The Lions played from behind most of the night, but finished strong for an exciting 56-55 win over Bishop Garrigan (8-7) Tuesday, Jan. 24.
“This was a good win for us against a quality team.  They shoot the ball extremely well, so I was happy to only give up 55,” said Coach Kevin Kahler.   We were down 48-42 with 4:30 to go, but the kids kept battling and really executed during the last four minutes.”

The Lions trailed by just four points at the half, 28-24, but outscored Garrigan 17-12 in the third quarter for a lead.  The two teams played even in the final period.
Ozzie Adams led the Lions in scoring with 17 points.  Tanner Tusha joined Crosby in double figures with 10 points.  Spencer Davidson contributed six points and was among the leaders in rebounds with seven.  Pete Swenson came off the bench to lead the team on the boards with nine.  He also had three points.  Gavin Sheakley and Bryson Hamilton each finished with two points, while Luke Schiller had one.

The Lions manhandled Clarion-Goldfield to earn a 56-38 road win Friday, Jan. 27.
“Any road win in this conference is a good one.  We didn’t execute as well offensively as I would have liked, but I’m happy with the win,” said Coach Kahler.  “We’re making progress and I feel like we’re headed in the right direction.  Hopefully we can continue to build as the tournament approaches.”
The Lions opened the game strong, rushing out to a 19-12 first quarter lead.  The Cowboys re-grouped for a 7-7 second quarter score, but Clear Lake again dominated in the third, 17-9 to take a 43-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
