Lincoln School site sold to developers

The former Lincoln Elementary School has been sold and will soon be coming down.
    Tom Green and Gary Veeder, of The Green Group, L.L.C. based in Charles City, finalized the purchase of the 4.25 acre school site Thursday.  The men, along with a third member of the Green Group, Cameron Green, plan to develop 18 housing units on the site.  The newest portions of the school building, a pair of single story additions comprising approximately 11,000 square feet at the north of the original building, will be kept and renovated to become six condominium units.  The remainder of the housing will be primarily twin homes.

    The Clear Lake School Board sold the former school building and grounds for $200,000 to Ken Wilhelm, of Norfolk, Neb. in 2008.  A twin home was constructed on the site, but no further development took place and the entire property was eventually placed on the market. 
    Details of the purchase were not disclosed.  However, Green and Veeder said Schoneman Realtors, of Clear Lake, will market the properties as they are built.
    The developers are still in the process of obtaining various permits and permission needed for the development, but are optimistic their plan will move forward quickly.
    “We hope to have the portion of the school we will use remodeled and ready in the spring or summer,” said Veeder. 
    Bergo Environmental is slated to be on site this week and begin asbestos abatement in the former gymnasium of the school.  That work will be followed by salvage and then demolition of the oldest part of the school.  Site landscaping is also expected to be complete yet this fall.
    Green and Veeder say they hope to save the large concrete “Lincoln School” signage which has been a part of the structure since it was built in 1926. The piece will be used elsewhere on the site.  In addition, they plan to relocate the school’s flag pole to - Read More Via e-Edition
