It’s classic car weekend

Club’s event keeps getting bigger, better

This weekend the C.L.A.S.S. Car Club presents its 28th annual Summer Cruise, Dance and Car Show by the lake.  The event is the largest car show between Des Moines and Minneapolis.

“It is always a great time.  Last year over 700 cars cruised around the lake on Friday evening and over 425 cars were at the show on Saturday,” said Jerry Young, C.L.A.S.S. president.

The cruise will begin at 6 p.m. Friday from the Kingland Systems parking lot adjacent from 1401 6th Ave. S.  The cruise will proceed from Kingland down 6th Avenue South to South Shore Drive, where it will go south around the lake.  At Ventura, participants will be directed through town by the Ventura Volunteer Fire Department back onto North Shore Drive toward Clear Lake.  The cruise will then turn onto North Lakeview Drive, going in front of City Park and ending at the corner of 4th Avenue South and South Shore Drive.

Young explained that each driver on the cruise will receive a flyer reminding them not to throw candy from the cars and not to do burnouts.

“Nothing is more dangerous to spectators, drivers and the cars than 3,500 pounds of steel out of control,” said Young.  “We ask the spectators to please not encourage these actions.  We want to be able to continue to provide a safe and enjoyable cruise for everyone for years to come.”

Cars may begin lining up for the cruise any time after 1:30 p.m. at Kingland.  The cost of participation in the cruise is $5 per car.  The $5 charge provides for two tickets for free admission to the Surf Ballroom Friday evening.  Ticket cost for all others wanting to go to the Surf will be $10 in advance (before 4 p.m) and - Read More Via e-Edition
