Mason City Mayor Eric Bookmeyer made good on his end of a bet with Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb about the outcome of the Clear Lake vs. Mason City football game. As mayor of the town with the losing team, Bookmeyer served lunch in the Clear Lake High School cafeteria Thursday.
“It’s fun to be here,” said Bookmeyer while serving cake to lines of CLHS students. “Clear Lake and Mason City are located so close to each other and do so much together, it’s fun to be playing each other. It’ll be a great tradition to continue.”
Mayor Crabb, who also served cake in the lunch line, said the friendly challenge between the mayors was just another way to support the schools. “It’s all about the students.
Clear Lake defeated Mason City 34-7 in the first meeting between the two teams since 1930.
