Girls soccer team falls to a tough Waverly-Shell Rock team
Waverly-Shell Rock topped the Clear Lake girls soccer team in a 1-0 bout on Friday, April 20 at Lion’s Field.
The 15th ranked Waverly Shell-Rock team scored at the 34 minute mark in the second half when a ball got past goalkeeper Riley Brinkman. It was the only ball that got past Brinkman, as she collected 20 saves in the game.
Coach Lothar Meyer also praised the play of Madison Faber, sweeper Alicia Miller and back line players Emily Phalen, Bailey Kibsgaard and Emily Willms.
The Lion offense had five shots at goal, with a shot by Hannah Bartless missing the net by inches.
“When playing a good team like Waverly-Shell rock, we have to get our middle players, along with our defenders to play more offensively to be able to score,” said Meyer.
The team is home on Monday, April 30. The varsity team takes the field at 5:30 p.m., followed by the JV.
