Gary A. Coe

Gary A. Coe, 77, of Ventura, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at his home in Ventura.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake, with Lay Pastor Al Berge officiating. Burial will follow in the Ventura Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the Clear Lake VFW.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at the funeral home on Friday.

Gary was the youngest of four children born to Theodore and Evalena “Heavy” Coe in Garner. He attended school in Ventura before enlisting in the United States Navy.

A longtime resident of Ventura, Gary found happiness in the tight-knit community and formed lasting bonds with friends and neighbors who became like family. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family alike and loved to play any and all card games, especially cribbage, pitch and schmier.

Gary’s life revolved around the open road, and he loved listening to audio books during his travel. His commitment to trucking was matched only by his passion for adventure and his unwavering work ethic.

He loved wildlife and the outdoors and enjoyed squirrel hunting, fishing and feeding the birds. He also delighted in the annual visits from the fox family to the marsh, finding joy in their playful antics as he observed them from the comfort of his home.

Gary is survived by his siblings, Elsie (Ron) Rist, Bill (Carolyn) Coe, and Linda Coe; nieces and nephews, Eric Coe, Colette Sampson, Aaron Coe, William Case, Donald Case and Gary Case; and his great nieces and nephews, Nick, Jennifer, Clayton, Kacy, Austin, Claire, Abby, Clemintine, Zia and Rylen; as well as extended relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Heavy.

Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
