G-H/V/WH cross country teams have impressive week

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country teams put in another impressive week.  Both the girls and boys brought home top finishes in their home meet held Monday, Sept. 26, and a met at Hampton-Dumont on Thursday, Sept. 29.
    
Garner Meet
    The girl’s team placed first and the boys captured second place at their home meet.  The girls finished with 20 points, ahead of North Iowa with 67 and Central Springs with 81.  The boys finished with 61 points, behind Osage with 43 points.  Seven teams competed in the meet.

    The boys were led by Brad Nedved and Joel Toppin, who finished in second and third place respectively.  Nedved ran the course in 16:36, while Toppin finished in 16:51.  Stuart Blank was next in 9th place with a time of 17:09.  Rounding out the team score was David Schreur, Jeff O’Brien and A.J. Arnold, who finished in 23rd, 24th and 25th places.
    The girls had four runners place in the top 10.  Nicole Burgart led the team with a third place finish in 15:50, she was followed by Maddie Tusha who placed fourth in 16:02.  Also in the top ten was Derica Jakoubek, fifth place, 16:06 and Tiara VanGerpen, 7th, 16:25.
    Ventura’s Jacob Heineman was one of the junior varsity leaders.  Heineman finished in fifth place with a time of 19:57.  Derek Lonneman led the JV team with a second place finish in 19:24.
