Early morning fire under investigation

Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of an early morning fire at Behr Iron and Metal, 12050 West State Street.

Twenty-one Clear Lake firefighters aboard three pumpers, a tanker, command pickup and brush truck were assisted by Mason City firefighters, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department and

Behr employees on site to control the blaze early Wednesday morning, July 25.

According to CLFD Public Information Officer Billy Krefft, about 3:30 a.m. a report of fire came in.  Two structures atop the conveyor system used for sorting and moving recycled metal had caught fire.

Firefighters were on scene for two and one-half hours before the command was terminated.

No injuries were reported. Estimates for damage to the structures were estimated at over $300,000 but the extent of damage to the operation is unknown.
