Douglas Bitker

    Douglas E. Bitker, 64, of Mason City, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.
    A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski, of Holy

Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be given to the Douglas E. Bitker Memorial Fund.
    Doug was born Sept. 2, 1947 at Mason City, a son of LeRoy and Goldie (Pitkin) Bitker.  He married Calliope Axiotis on July 1, 1985 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
    Doug attended school at Ventura, graduated from Clear Lake High School, and attended North Iowa Area Community College.
    After his schooling, he moved to Minneapolis, where he worked for Northwest Airlines.  He later moved to Los Angeles, Calif., returning to Clear Lake in the early 1970s.
    Doug worked in sales at Price Motors, Advanced Systems, and the Yellow Book.  He enjoyed landscaping, cars, spending time with his friends and family, his dog “Alfie”, and especially his grandchildren.
    He is survived by his wife Calliope Bitker, Mason City; children, Steven (Kelley) Gasperi, Leawood, Kan., and Jami (Steve) Yoder, Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren, Paige, Kellen, Molly, Joey, Nick; sisters, Sharon Kramer, Clear Lake, Phyllis Rosendahl, Mason City; brothers, Larry Bitker, Mason City, Don Bitker, Folsom, Calif., and Loren Bitker, Mason City.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Duwayne Bitker.
    Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.
