CL girls split NCC games
The Clear Lake girls moved their record to 4-2 after splitting contests with North Central Conference teams. Tuesday, Dec. 11, the Lions manhandled Clarion-Goldfield, 52-49, putting themselves in a tie for second in the league. However, the chance to move atop the NCC eluded the Lions Friday, as St Ed’s posted a 53-34 win.

The Lions and Cowgirls both got off to slow starts, with Clear Lake leading 6-5 after one quarter. But as the game progressed the Lions got into the groove both offensively and defensively for a convincing win.
“We had a good defensive game tonight. I thought our girls played tough on that end of the court which allowed us to pull away in the second and third quarter,” said Coach Bart Smith. “Offensively we need to get some continuity. I didn’t think we were very fluid and our timing is a little off.”
Three Lions finished in double figures for the Lions, led by Bailey Kibsgaard with 14. Kibsgaard had a hot hand, going 4/6 from the field and 6/8 at the free throw line. The junior also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Megan Loux and Trudy Peterson had 10 points apiece, followed by Logan Anderson and Kristen Hewett each with seven. Kaitlyn Pitzen and Emily Willms came off of the bench to score two points.
Hewett was also a leader in rebounds with six. Loux, Anderson and Pitzen each had four rebounds.
The Lion defense also produced 13 steals.
St. Ed’s 53, CL 34
The St. Ed’s defense effectively stopped the Lions and gave the home team a setback in a 53-34 game played Friday in Clear Lake.
“I was shocked with how our girls didn’t rise to the challenge,” said Coach Smith. “We had a chance to get some breathing room at the top of the conference, but we failed to perform at our highest level to compete with them tonight.”
The Lions had a chance to take over the conference lead with a win against St. Ed’s. Clear Lake entered the game in a tie for second place a 4-1 with Iowa Falls-Alden and Hampton-Dumont after H-D knocked off IF-A earlier in the week. The loss put the Lions in a tie - Read More Via e-Edition
