Byron Everett

    Byron W. Everett, age 83, of Latimer, Iowa died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Solara Hospital in McAllen, Texas.
    Funeral services for Byron W. Everett were held Saturday April 14, at the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer. Burial will take place at a later date in the St Paul’s Lutheran Church cemetery.

    Byron William, the son of Wallace and Gertrude Hofman Everett was born Aug. 29, 1928 in Chicago, Ill. He grew up in the Chicago area where he attended school. He was baptized and confirmed at the St Paul Lutheran Church in Chicago. Byron graduated from the Van Sturbin High School in 1946. He then attended Wright Community College for two years. While living in Chicago, Byron fondly remembered working as a Life Guard on Lake Michigan. Byron moved to Clear Lake in December of 1955. In 1955, he also entered the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1959.
    Byron was united in marriage to Pauline Nickerson on June 4, 1955. The couple made their home in Clear Lake where they were blessed with a son and two daughters. Byron would later be united in marriage to Arlene Borcherding in 1975. They made their home in Latimer. Byron began his working career in Iowa by working for the Clear Lake School System in maintenance and bus driving. He then worked for a time at Blue Ribbon Meat Packing. Byron then worked 21 years for Kayenay Engraving Co. and Metalcraft in Mason City. He retired in 1990. Byron and Arlene took their first winter trip to Texas in January 1991 and continued until his death.
    Byron was a member of the St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Latimer. He belonged to Lutheran Layman League, where he was a voting member. He also belonged to the Wigwam and Happy Sam’s Camping Clubs. Byron is remembered as a man who enjoyed life. Swimming and sailing, as well as Texas Jam Sessions and dancing, were just a few of his hobbies.
    Byron is survived by his children, Amy Everett of Clear Lake, Todd Everett of Chicago, Polly Krikorian of Chaska, Minn.; step children, Larry (Sheryl) Borcherding of Hampton, Iowa, Duane Borcherding of Westerville, Ohio, Sharon (David) Escobar of Lake Lotawana, Mo., Kevin (Carol) Borcherding of Latimer,  Greg (Sheryl) Borcherding of Hampton; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, John Wallace Everett of California, and numerous other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; a granddaughter, Mollie Jo Vega; sister and brother-in-law; and three aunts.
