Iowa Supreme Court justices mix education with business in North Iowa

 

    Social studies students at Clear Lake High School were given a unique opportunity on Friday.  They had the chance to learn first hand about the operations of the Iowa Supreme Court from Justice David Wiggins. 
    Wiggins and other members of the Iowa Supreme Court were in North Iowa to hear oral arguments in Mason City on two cases.  The most publicized case concerned a Mitchell County ordinance banning steel-

wheeled vehicles from its hard surface roads.  Oral arguments in that case involving a 13-year-old Mennonite boy from Osage were presented Thursday evening at the Music Man square in Mason City.   Zimmerman’s family argued the ban interferes with the practice of their religion and is challenging the constitutionality of the ordinance.
