Band performance is a ‘Thriller’ for all

    The Clear Lake High School Marching Band earned its highest placement ever at the recent Algona Band Day field competition.  The group earned third place among 14 band competing in the Saturday, Oct. 1 event.
    “There are definitely some great 3A bands that attend the Algona Band Day field competition.  Our band had great rehearsals the two weeks leading up to the contest and

really peaked that night,” said CLHS Band Director Jeff Griffin.  “Part of our success this year has been that the kids have really enjoyed the type of show we are performing, which is music from the 1980’s.”  He added the musical line-up dates back to his own “teen years,” so he appreciates the music, as well.
    “The crowd at Algona really seemed to enjoy it also and like any performer or athlete, the band really becomes motivated by an enthusiastic audience,” said Griffin.  
    The group performed  “The Final Countdown” by Europe, “You Can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon, “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey, and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.
